How Does Your Business Respond if There is a Problem?

When it comes to cybersecurity, all businesses should have a business continuity plan and a disaster recovery plan. Most businesses have some form of business continuity planning, where they know what they're going to do in the event of an emergency or disaster. However, business owners often neglect to put a cybersecurity plan in place.

What steps should you take when creating a Disaster Recovery Plan?

  • Your disaster recovery plan should always include cybersecurity. It should cover malware in your network, a catastrophic event where the network completely goes down because of ransomware and anything in between.

  • Utilize free disaster recovery plan templates. You can find these on the Internet. The most important thing is to think about it ahead of time and have a plan in place because when a disaster or emergency strikes, it’s vital to be prepared so you can mitigate the problem right away.

  • Have IT staff in place. This can be an internal IT professional or a contracted service. If you have a single IT person on staff make sure to have a backup contact as well in the event your IT person is unavailable when needed.

Call the Michigan Cyber Command Center (MC3) to report any kind of cyber emergency. They can give you advice, take reports of the crime and point you in the right direction for where to go next.
